Adding to 2 different tables

Hi Everyone,

I have a page with a textbox and a dropdown list.
The user will enter a company name in the text box and select a number from 1 - 20 (number of delegates for that company) in the dropdown list.

I've got the text box and dropdown writing to tblCompany but I would also like it to write to tblUsers at the same time. The reason for this is that i need it to set up the number of users that have been selected in the dropdown list.

Here is the codebehind file:

Imports System.Data.SqlClientImports System.Web.ConfigurationPartialClass cms_Management_Company_NewCompanyInherits System.Web.UI.PageDim companyNameAs String Dim companyActiveAs Boolean Dim companyArchivedAs Boolean Dim companyDelegatesAs Integer Dim userForeNameAs String Dim userSurnameAs String Dim userEmailAs String Dim userUsernameAs String Dim userPasswordAs String Dim userActiveAs Boolean Dim userTypeIDAs Integer Dim companyIDAs Integer Dim iAs Integer Dim NoLoopsAs Integer Protected Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal senderAs Object,ByVal eAs System.Web.UI.ImageClickEventArgs)Handles btnSave.ClickDim conStringAs String = WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("General").ConnectionStringDim conAs New SqlConnection(conString)Dim cmdAs New SqlCommand("INSERT INTO tblCompany (CompanyName, CompanyActive, CompanyArchived, CompanyDelegates) VALUES (@.CompanyName, @.CompanyActive, @.CompanyArchived, @.CompanyDelegates)", con) cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.CompanyName", companyName) cmd.Parameters.Item("@.CompanyName").Value = txtCompanyName.Text cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.CompanyDelegates", companyDelegates) cmd.Parameters.Item("@.CompanyDelegates").Value = lstDel.SelectedValue cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.CompanyActive", companyActive) cmd.Parameters.Item("@.CompanyActive").Value =True cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.CompanyArchived", companyArchived) cmd.Parameters.Item("@.CompanyArchived").Value =False Using con con.Open() cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() con.Close()End UsingDim con2As New SqlConnection(conString)Dim cmd2As New SqlCommand("INSERT INTO tblUsers (UserForeName, UserSurname, UserEmail, UserUsername, UserPassword, UserActive, UserTypeID, CompanyID) VALUES (@.UserForeName, @.UserSurname, @.UserEmail, @.UserUsername, @.UserPassword, @.UserActive, @.UserTypeID, @.CompanyID)", con2) cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.UserForeName", userForeName) cmd2.Parameters.Item("@.UserForeName").Value ="First Name - Delegate 1" cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.UserSurname", userSurname) cmd2.Parameters.Item("@.UserSurname").Value ="Surname - Delegate 1" cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.UserEmail", userEmail) cmd2.Parameters.Item("@.UserEmail").Value ="Email Address - Delegate 1" cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.UserUsername", userUsername) cmd2.Parameters.Item("@.UserUsername").Value ="Username - Delegate 1" cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.UserPassword", userPassword) cmd2.Parameters.Item("@.UserPassword").Value ="Password - Delegate 1" cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.UserActive", userActive) cmd2.Parameters.Item("@.UserActive").Value =True cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.UserTypeID", userTypeID) cmd2.Parameters.Item("@.UserTypeID").Value = 2 cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@.UserTypeID", userTypeID) cmd2.Parameters.Item("@.UserTypeID").Value = 1 Using con2 con2.Open()For i = 1To NoLoops cmd2.ExecuteNonQuery()Next i con2.Close()End Using Response.Redirect("~/cms/Management/Company/Company.aspx")End SubEnd Class
The other thing I am not sure of is getting the ID of the new company and assiging it to the delegates in tblUsers (to associate them with the new company)
I hope this makes sense.
Thank you very much guys.
Scott.

Hi,

To get the recently added record's ID use

SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY()

and catch the returned value using

cmd.ExecuteScalar()

Adding text to RS home page folder.aspx

I would like to be able to add some text to the SQL RS home page (folder.aspx I believe). Is this possible and if so, how? Also, what if I would like to add a graphic (logo) to it as well.

thanks!

Hi Martha,

Can you please clarify your question? What do you mean by SQL Reporting Service home page.

Sincerely,

Adding spaces inside text box values

I need to adding spaces inside the expression of a text box (in table header
or in page header).
For example: = "string 1" & " " & "string 2";
this expression returns only one space between string 1 and string 2.
Many thanksHi,
Just use =space(<no of spaces>) e.g space(10)

but then
his distribution I have seen only a single space!
How can I solve this issue?
Thanks

= "string 1 " & "string 2"; where the space is inserted aftter the 1.

used by the spaces is not the same as you see when you define it. Try to put
much more spaces between the strings and you will see the distance increase.

text box.
I have tried:
- = "string1 " & "string2";
- = "string1" & space(10) & "string2";
- = "string1" & " " & "string2";
- = "string1 " & " " & space(10) & "
string2".
These solutions function inside MS VisualStudio .NET (I see the results by
preview),
BUT NOT FUNCTION AFTER THEIR DISTRIBUTION (I see the results inside Internet
browser).
Many thanks

ChrW(160) as nonbreaking space and the Internet browser won't change them.

In case you were wondering what is going on I can explain...
I have a SQL statement that returns a string of dates delimited by 8 spaces,
eg.
1-Mar-2006 2-Mar-2006 etc.
When in VS.Net IDE the preview window shows the spaces correctly but when
deployed to a website they are displayed as HTML and hence the multiple
spaces are ignored and displayed as a single space.
Try putting in and Reporting services sees the & and converts it to a html
&, so your source looks like , insert scream here.
CharW(160) gets past this and is rendered into HTML by RS as
Thanks again, I will be able to sleep tonight.

Adding page numbers by using the template "Report Model Project"

Hi,
I'm trying - without results - to introduce pagenumbers in my reports
which are made by using the template "Report Model Project" of Visual
Studio 2005. I'm using SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services. Does anybody
know if this is possible en if so how to do it?
Ren=E9René,
You'll need to add a text box to the page footer then set the Expression of
the textbox to
=Globals!PageNumber
or this type of thing is more friendly:
="Page " + cstr(Globals!PageNumber) + " of " + cstr(Globals!TotalPages)
Cheers,
Paul Ibison SQL Server MVP, www.replicationanswers.com|||Hello Paul,
Thanks for your solution, but I can not use it. Your solution is OK
when using the template "Report Server Project" and not for the
template "Report Model Project" of Visual Studio 2005 as I'm using. It
looks that for the "Report Model Project" it is impossible to add a
textbox, a header and/or a footer. I think it is impossible to add a

I must be missing something here. The report model projects I've created are
essentially data universes, and contain no reports. However, reports can
subsequently be created which relate to these reports using the Report
Builder - presumably you are referring to these reports? If this is the
case, you can edit the rdl for these reports. It's not nice, but you could
add a pageFooter element at the bottom (before the </Report> element). For a
simple page number it would look something like that below. I'll find out
for you if there is a way this can be done using the BIDS GUI.

Adding Matrix affect the report print preview

I'm sure body+margins=page width, there is no way the report is splited to
multiple page when print preview. The report is a multi-page report. The
matrix is added in the 4th page. Before adding the matrix, everything is
fine. After added the matrix, the first page is splitted to 2 pages or even 3
pages when print previewing depending on the columns the matrix has. And the
matrix itself is within the same page(page width is good enough for it).
Any suggestions? I have run out of ideas. Thanks.Anyone can help?

adding fields in page footer

Hi Every one
I have problem in using page footer field from the storeprocedure. I have a procedure and defined two fields one is page header and page footer. When I drag and drop them repective area it displaying error message you can't use fields for header and footer than how can I use them please help me. I am new to this reporting services. Please, I got this issue too.
Does anyone get good solution?
thanks.|||I don't know if I understand you correctly but....if you are using visual studio.net
you can only use globals! and textboxes with text in them.

I hope this is what you are looking for. I am pretty new at this also.

Hope you find an answer to your problem,
Kerrie|||Can you put them in the table header & table footer?|||

Hi,
For some reason VS.net is very limited on what you can do in the headers and footers. No fields or tools can go in them. VS.net will only accept globals and textboxes with text.

I have not tried any constants-i dont know about that one.

I hoped that helped.

thanx and have a great day...

Kerrie

|||You can use fields in the page header and footer by using a hidden parameter. You select the fields in your stored procedure or SQL just like normal fields and then set up a hidden parameter, referencing the field. In the SSRS 2000 version, leave the Prompt value blank – this makes it hidden. In SSRS 2005, set the Hidden check box on the Report Parameters dialog box.

Next, add a new parameter to your report and set the “default value” by selecting the field from your dataset.
Then, create a text box whose value will be the new parameter - i.e. “=Parameters!Footer.Value”

In the cube editor I am trying to add some BI. I want to do the currency conversions. I have everything set up. I get to the last page where it says "This is what will happen" I hit finish and I get

Allan,

I am receiving the same error message and was wondering if you were able to find a resolution to this issue.

Adding Computed Columns Together

I have two computed columns (subtotal1, subtotal2) and I
want to add them together to get a Total. I want to show
it on a data access page that links to a SQL DB. This is
like a Purchase Order Database. Is this possible? What is
the easiest way to do this?
Thanks,
Nate SUse a view or query. Totals and subtotals don't belong in a table.

Adding blank lines to a report -2nd request

I am trying to add additional blank lines to a report based on how much room
is left on a page. If there are 6 lines of datarows, I need there to be 15
lines of blank lines. if there are 15 lines of datarows I need 6 blank lines
added.
I am currenly using a table object with a static number of header rows with
the bottom lined. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Hello Eric,
I would like to suggest you to add another table under your table.
Also, you need to add a dataset which contain 21 lines records. And you
could use a filter to control how many rows to show.

that is simply all header rows. But I havent figured out how to do a
'filter' when there is not a dataset attached to it.

You could create a table with just one column "ID"
Then, you could insert just 21 rows in the table.
After that, you could use this statement to get the new dataset which
contain only 2 column:
SELECT id, ' ' as Text from <table name>
The filter could be setted like this:
ID <= 21-Rownumber('your first dataset name')
Hope this will be helpful.

Yes, you could use the union in the dataset.
The reason why I recommand the table is for some performance concern and
more efficant management.

adding additional Blank lines to a report

I am trying to add additional blank lines to a report based on how much room
is left on a page. If there are 6 lines of datarows, I need there to be 15
lines of blank lines. if there are 15 lines of datarows I need 6 blank lines
added.
I am currenly using a table object with a static number of header rows with
the bottom lined. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Eric,
I had this problem as well. What I did or would do in your case is add
20 rows of footers after your detail row. On the first footer set the
visibility of the row = IIF(rownumber<20, false, true). This will
always show this row if less than 20 rows in the dataset are returned.
On the next footer set the visibiitly = IIF(rownumber<19, false, true).
do this to the remaining 18 footers incrementing rownumber by -1 in
each case. THat should work. Let me know if it doesn't
