Additional IP for SQL Cluster
We have a two node failover SQL 2000 cluster setup. These servers are on a
closed netowrk where they do not have access to internet or anything other
network. I now have a need to be able to connect to the SQL server from
another network. I had added the correct gateway etc and can assign a new IP
in the cluster for outside access. Everything work fine except that SQL will
not listen on this IP. I am assigning the new IP on the same NIC as my
cluster's public IP. Does anyone know who do I go about making SQL listen
on both IPs?
Thank you.
Hi

Every Operation DBA knows that you cannot manage SQL Server 2000 Cluster IP
addresses through the Cluster Administrator APIs.
You must rerun the SQL Server 2000 Setup utility, Virtual Server, Advanced
Options, Manager Cluster Resources, and add the additional IP resources from
the Network Dialog.
The only other alternative would be to hack the registry (HKLM\Cluster and
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft, either Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL$InstanceName\MSSQLServer or MSSQLServer\MSSQLServer cluster
keys and resources).

Adding\Removing roles to Yuokon Database
I am trying to access the database roles of a database made in Sql Server
2005 (Yukon).
I am trying to create a new role for a databse. Here is the code
public void AddRole(string role)
{
Server server = new Server();
string strConnection = "";
strConnection = "DataSource=server
name;Provider=MSOLAP.3;Initial Catalog=DatabaseName";
server.Connect(strConnection);
Database db = new Database();
db = server.Databases.FindByName("DatabaseName");
db.Roles.Add(role);//db.Roles.Remove(role);
db.Update();
server.Disconnect();
}
I can successfully read the roles for that particular database , however i
cannot add or remove a role . Kindly advice.Hello nick1234,

Adding users to linked server
linked to an Oracle server but somehow, I'm unable to add any users,
even after trying in EM. It'll allow me to select the local account,
enter a remote userid/password, click apply save, but doesn't seem
to hold the info.
Please help!
Thanks,
DannyHi Danny,
Might not be much help as I am not 100% sure I know what you want to
do but have you looked at sp_addlinkedsrvlogin?
I use this to create logins for accessing on Oracle instance.

Adding Users
specific set of reports can go and add the users that they want to have
access to the reports. However, the only way that i find this works, is if i
also grant the "power user" access to sql server enterprise manager to create
the user in the server and then grant the user select privledges on the
database. Is there a way to accomplish this using integrated security
without having to have each user entered into the server's user table and
granted individual rights?
thanks for any and all help!
BenYes. The way you are setup right now is you are using the user running the
report credentials as the credentials to get the data. What I do is have a
special, readonly user that is used for the credentials for the report. I
run SQL Server in mixed mode so that I do not have to use a domain account.
Then, the user being logged in is just used to allow access to the report.
This would allow you to do as you want. An added benefit is that the system
would be able to take advantage of connection pooling which is not the case
the way you are running now (for a connection to be shared the connection
string, including username, must be exact match).

Adding User groups Wont work
We are using reporting services for about 6 months now and granting
access to windows users works great. I cant seem to get user groups to
work however. I am not a expert on windows users/groups so I dont
really know what to check.
Say for example we have a user group called "Activations" I type the
name and it enters correctly, and shows the group has access to a
report. Then if I look at the group in MS Outlook and see what users a
Group has it shows me the users. But if they try and access the report
they get a error saying they dont have access. Only way I can get it to
work is by adding the usernames one-by-one.
Ona a side note the group "Everyone" seems to work fine. Has anyone
else had any problems or know what I could check.
Thanks,
EddieI should also say that the user groups I want to add are domain user
groups - not local. But wouldnt RS be able to user domain user groups?

I have several domain groups plus some individual users and what I have done
is added a local group (like Reports) to this local group I add the
individual users and the domain groups. Then I assign this local group to
the Browser role.

adding up column values (asp & access 2000)
I've got a quandry - I have a detailed database that handles advert
orders between a design agency and printers / magazines etc.
I want to add up the total spent by the client and put the results to a
field.
I've actually done that using a query table in access - it should be
quite simple as i can bind the 'total amount' to my table - the only
thing it does not currently do is filter the total based on the month
selected.
For example if you look at
http://www.daneverton.com/dg2data/months/2006-12.asp
The data here is filtered by the issue equaling Dec-2006
The actual order total is 13,622 but the column is showing the total
for all entries to date (a years worth = 422,048)
I'm sure that there is only a basic tweak required but i'm banging my
head over what to do
The sql is "SELECT * FROM monnodraught, q_monodraught_total WHERE
[Issue / Edition] LIKE ? ORDER BY Publication ASC"
Any help gladly received.Hi Dan,
What is the SQL behind: q_monodraught_total ?
Quote:
The sql is "SELECT * FROM monnodraught, q_monodraught_total WHERE
[Issue / Edition] LIKE ? ORDER BY Publication ASC"
I'm thinking you might benefit from a SELECT SUM... query
SELECT SUM(fieldname) FROM table WHERE condition ORDER BY fieldname; SELECT SUM(Age) FROM Persons WHERE Age>20good luck ;o)
Cheers,
Douglas

Adding tables to SQL server database in visual studio?
I keep reading it's possible to add, amend ,etc. tables in visual studio but to do so I need access to the features that allow this.
I can connect to the database but I haven't been able to use any of these database features since they are "blanked" out.
Obviously, I can do all this at the server but ideally I would like to do it remotely.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.In your server explorer, can you navigate to the tables?
-Servers
- <your server>
- SQL Servers
- <your SQL server>
- <your database>
- tables
From there you should be able to add, change, or delete tables.
-Ian|||Hi Ian
Thanks for the reply.
I can navigate to the tables but the menu features are not available for adding,etc. tables.
Could it be something at the server end that I need to change?
Thanks in advance.sql

adding security to a linked table
Use a VIEW, actually 2 views. One for the hoi poloi, and the other for the chosen few. That is the 'best' option.
However, you can use column level permissions in the linked table if necessary. (Something about your question leads me to believe that you are using Access, in which case, my response may be totally 'full of beans'.)
|||I am using Access 2002 on the front end, sorry I thought I had mentioned that.|||Can someone please help explain how to go about doing this? I also need to modify field properties on the access end of a linked table. I applied the field property changes I wanted to the table in SQL server 2005, but am at a loss when changing them in access. I keep getting a message saying I can't save changes to a linked table. Is there a way for the changes made to the table in SQL to cascade down to the same table in access? Otherwise, how should I go about doing this? Thanks in advance!|||Can someone provide where to find more information about adding column level permissions in a linked table? I am using SQL server 2005 as a back end and Access 2002 as a front end. I added a new column to an existing table and now I want to add permissions to only this new column. Thank you much!|||I still think that the best solution is to create an updatable VIEW (WITH VIEW_METADATA) that does not include the column in question. Those that should not access the column are provided permissions for the view, those that need access to the column are provided access to another VIEW that includes the column, or to the underlaying table.
For column level permissions, the specific Topic in Books Online is: GRANT Object Permissions (Transact-SQL). However, I recommend serious consideration of the VIEW option -it will be so much easier to maintain.

For column level permissions, the specific Topic in Books Online is:GRANT Object Permissions (Transact-SQL). However, I recommend serious consideration of the VIEW option -it will be so much easier to maintain.

Adding permissions to New Database
When a new Database is created ( some , not all. All that begins with 'PW' ) i want to add a windows-usergroup to it so they can access the DB.
Normally I could do this by adding this user to the model-db but it's not for all DB's that are added (The other DB's must not be accesible for this usergroup ).
The DB's are added by an External App so I have no control over it.
So I was thinking, no problem we can just add a trigger to the master..sysdatabases table and add if necessary the permissions.
Not -> Even with allowupdates = 1 you cannot add a trigger to a system table ( a bit overprotection from ms, should be allowed if you know what you are doing ).
I would like to avoid running a job every x time to look if a new DB has been added, the DB must be available within minutes after creation.
Does anybody has any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance,
Sven Peeters
Belgiumif you know what you are doing
Indeed
Does anybody has any suggestions ?
Yeah, don't do what you're doing...
What's with the dynamic database creation anyway?
What is this for?|||That's the beauty of it all, that i cannot control.
It's an external app that generates these DB's ( that are deleted after a while ).
I think they use them as temporary database with statistics or some sort.
Anyway, i cannot change anything about the app and other users must have access to this database.
Any help is welcome, otherwise I will have to use a job to do this.
Thnx in adv,
Sven Peeters

Just curious...is this a third party app or an in house external app?
If it's 3rd party, what is it?
And how do you know what users are suppose to have access to which databases.
How do they not step on their own ducks when creating the dbs..are they timestamped?
What about the logins? Are these new users or old users?

adding other users
Created a report in SSRS 2005 on a test windows server 2003.
I have admin rights on this server.
I can access it by http://localhost/reports
and then click on the report itself to view the data.
Now I would like my colleague to access this report on this server.
He does NOT have admin rights.
I would like him to view the report from his browser by typing:
http://servername/reports or something simiilar.
How/where do I add him to have access to the report?
ThanksFound the link to add the user.
Thanks anyway

Adding Multiple Users to Database
delete them from being able to access the DB in one keystroke (or so).
Can I do the reverse? If I deleted everyone, is there an SP or a
location that I can select multiple users and grant them access to the
DB quickly?
Thus far, all I've found is to select each user one at a time and give
them "public" access to the database.
(It's a good thing we are not a big company! I tried to restrict
access to all but a couple users to a particular DB only to discover
that I had the wrong DB selected. I had to add each user back in
manually.)
Thanks!
-TimothyConsider using NT group membership to the database.
See sp_grantdbaccess in Books Online;
sp_grantdbaccess
Adds a security account in the current database for a Microsoft SQL
Server login or Microsoft Windows NT user or group, and enables it to be
granted permissions to perform activities in the database.

Adding MS Access Project
I'm installed the MSDE and it's running on my desktop.
I'm trying to make a new Ms Access Project.
It asks for a user name and password and I supply sa as the user and leave
the password blank.
I get an error back saying that:
Connection Failed
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 10054
and more...is that enough of the error for you to know what I'm doing
wrong?
Thanks.
Also, I'm familiar with MS Access frontend/backend setup. When I get it
working, does the project work as the frontend and the SQL database the
backend?
Is there a link to intro info on all of this?
Thanks.
Sorry for the double post. Didn't mean to.
I found that Norton Personal Firewall is blocking this from running. Which
program do I need to allow access. MS Access has access.
Thanks.

Adding Global Parameters
Is there a way to access global parameters in Reporting Services Reports?..currently all we can usee is the Globals collection...is there a way to add keys to global collection?
can we write something in web.config ( as ReportServer is also a web application) and use the ConfigurationManager class?. The ConfigurationManager class did not work for me when I used it in the expression editor as the editor did not recognise it.
Any help is appreciated (or pointers for that matter).
Thanks.
Hello, have you found any solution yet? I'd like to use shared parameter of whole .net solution or project too. I could imagine to write assembly that expose a constant, but I wish it would exist an easier way. Jirka Nouza
